Senior student at New Dorp High School, Elizabeth Duker, is going for a culinary scholarship. She is a well known person and known for her cooking/baking skills. She belongs to the Acadamey of Health and Sciences.
Originally from Ghana in Africa, Elizabeth immigrated to the United States five years ago with her family. While she is here at New Dorp she comes to school early. Shes shows up to the school’s class kitchen and begins her day. Elizabeth works really well at her station and is well mannered. She started out loving food and she is doing something really great with it. She is practicing her love of being a pastry chef. Of course she has to train herself and complete time trials by cooking or making dishes to keep her skills up.
She has her sights set on attending culinary school and in the spring of 2011, hopes to compete in the Careers through Culinary Arts Program(C-CAP), a culinary scholarship competition open to high school students who wish to pursue a gastronomic career
On a scale of 1 to 10 she rates herself a 7 or 8 on her baking skills. Compared to other people in her age group, she rates herself a 9. She is a very dedicated chef and very diligent in her culinary works. She was inspired by her mother and her aunt to persue her love of food. She is very happy and is proud of her work. Her love of food is what’s driving her to go for the scholarship.
The teacher for the culinary class is Mr. Hayes. He recently brought back the culinary program. This allowed Elizabeth to come and go from school to home as she pleased, from kitchen to kitchen. She strives to do her best everytime.
