In high school, there are regents that students need to take in order to recieve their diplomas. Some kids do better than others, but that doesn’t mean that they are smarter or better than someone else that did worse. The scores that students recieve on their regents isn’t enough to tell a person how well they may do in college and how successful they will be. There are numerous factors that contribute to what a person may get on their regents.
A students mindset is a serious factor to consider. Some kids take the regents more seriously than others. They may take the time to study and prepare for it so that they can get the highest score possible, where as others may just take the test without preparing for it because as long as they get a passing grade then they don’t care. Another factor that can contribute to a persons score is the teacher. Some teachers may teach too fast or too slow for the student to understand and it leaves them feeling lost and confused with no hope of passing. People that actually care about getting a high score will do what they can to get extra help and others may just take as much as they know and hope that it is enough to get a good grade. Some teachers may not teach everything that was on the regent because the lack of time. Some students may feel pressure when they take the test which can effect their thinking, usually for the worst.
When a student goes to college, it’s usually because they want to. If a person doesn’t get a high grade on the regent, they may still do great in college. They could have a better teacher, they know they have to really try to do well since they are paying for the class and you become mature enough to be able to listen to the teacher and absorb what it is you’re learning. People that do great on their regents could actually do worse in college. Kids that do well all through high school may take college for granted and think that they know everything because they did so well in everything while in high school. They may not take things as seriously either.
No matter what you get on your regents, it doesn’t mean that you’re going to do better or worse when you get into college. There are many things to consider for what a student gets on their regents. Regents and college are two seperate things and they really shouldn’t effect a person. How you did overall over all your years in high school is the only thing that should be taken into consideration to how a person will do when they get into college.
