This past Friday , Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D was released, it made $23.03 million and made it to the first place of 2013 movies.Texas Chainsaw 3D begins directly after the events of the 1974 when the townspeople of Newt, Texas enact revenge on Leatherface and his cannibal family members by burning their home to the ground. Jedidiah “Jed” Sawyer known as “Leatherface” and Heather Miller survived. Heather was just a baby when the house was burned down but as she grew older she found out her grandmother had left her that house. Jed knew about Heather because of his grandmothers stories, but Heather was terrified of Jed, he tried killing her three times, but little did he know she was the little girl his grandmother used to talk about. Jed known as Leatherface continues to frighten the people from Newt, Texas. Many of Chainsaw fans are thrilled with the movie, the bloody scenes, the way he massacred the people.“When I saw this movie I thought it was one of the best horror movie made in 3D. The way he took off the faces of the people was crewed and the way he sewed their faces onto his face. I enjoyed watching this movie, I wonder if theres going to be a part 3 since he hasn’t died yet,” said a fan of the movie Devante Belton. “To me the 3D made it more scary, I felt like he was going to kill me when he was using the chainsaw to kill the people. I thought the movie was great it still leaves you wondering what’s going to happen to him, hopefully there’ll be another part to the movie,” said another fan David Pantaleon. As it can be seen, many are pleased with this movie and many are looking foword to another part to this horror movie.

Whitney Houston, a world-known American singer passed away on February 11th. The cause of the death was unknown for a short period of time. It was later uncovered that her body was drowned in her bathtub. On December 12th, a titan of a movie came to theatres. However the main character is anything but a titan. Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, is the main protagonist of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The Hobbit is a prequel to the hit trilogy The Lord of the Rings. It tells the story of Bilbo Baggins who is a stay at home hobbit who is not the most adventurous guy around. One day baggins is visited by Gandalf the Grey, played by Ian McKellen, he brings Bilbo on the adventure of a lifetime. 2012 was a big year; one hit was the rider on the invisible horse. PSY is the creator of Gangnam Style. This song was a huge hit in North America despite it being of the K-pop genre. It was released in North America on the 15th of July. It was the first video to reach 1 billion views on youtube. The MTV music awards of 2012 was hosted by Kevin Hart. The award ceremony took place on September 6, 2012. It was broadcasted live from the Staples Center Arena in Los Angeles. This was the lowest watched MTV Awards since 2007, because they changed the day from Sunday to Thursday. Carly Rae Jepson wrote the big hit Call Me Maybe. This song became not only a radio favorite, but also a famous internet meme. Jepson is a Canadian singer who was discovered when Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were driving through Canada and heard her voice on the radio. After becoming famous internationally, she was signed with Interscope Records.

“The Hunger Games” is a movie based off of the first book in the three book series written by Suzanne Collins. The movie was released by Lionsgate and was directed by Gary Ross. The movie was released on March 23, 2012. It was a much anticipated movie for many people. Whether they read the books or not, people were excited to see what “The Hunger Games” was all about and people that were fans of the books were excited to see everything they imagined while reading the books being brought to life on the big screen. The series takes place in futuristic North America after wars and natural disasters have wiped out most of the land. With the remaining land, the government created 13 Districts that surround the ruling city called the Capitol. This new country is now known as Panem. The Capitol is very rich and very strict. The Districts are all poor and work to make things for the Capitol. The 13 Districts decide to rebel against the Capitol but the Capitol is to powerful and they supposedly destroy the 13th District and this leads to the Capitol winning the war. As punishment for starting the uprising, the Capitol creates The Treaty Of Treason in which something called the Hunger Games is created to show how the Capitol is in control. The Hunger Games is a televised event that happens once every year. The rules are that one man and one women from the ages of 12 through 18 are chosen at random at a public reaping from each of the remaining 12 Districts to be put into an arena to fight to the death. Before being put into the arena, the tributes are brought to the Capitol to learn how to fight and to learn survival skills. The games are over when there is only one person remaining. Katniss Everdeen is the main character in this story. She is played by Jennifer Lawrence, who does an amazing job in portraying the role. Katniss’s little sister, Prim, played by Willow Shields, gets chosen at the reaping, but Katniss volunteers to take her place. Gale Hawthorne, played by Liam Hemsworth is Katniss only friend in the movie, as they both have to provide for their families since both of their fathers died in the same mine accident. Peeta Mellark, played by Josh Hutcherson is the male tribute that gets chosen at the reaping to be put into the arena with Katniss. Both Jennifer and Josh do an amazing job in playing the parts. They have great chemistry with each other and their facial expressions make up for the little dialogue. Both actors wanted nothing more but to do their parts justice for all of the fans, and they sure did not disappoint. You can see the terror in their faces as they are put into the arena and it made the experience feel very believable and real. Haymitch Abernathy, played by Woody Harrelson, playes Katniss and Peeta’s mentor. Harrelson does great job in portraying the drunken wreck of a mentor. Cinna who is played by Lenny Kravitz plays Katniss’s stylist who is in charge of making sure Katniss looks her best in order to help her gain sponsors. Lenny does amazing in showing how gentle Cinna is and how much he cares for Katniss. Stanley Tucci plays Caesar Flickerman and does a more than amazing in playing the charismatic talk show host. Wes Bentley plays Seneca Crane, the head game maker and once you got over how awesome his beard looked, you could see how perfect he was for the part. President Snow was played by Donald Sutherland, who did a great job in showing just how vicious the President is. Last but not least, Effie Trinket who is played by Elizabeth Banks plays the Capitol citizen, in charge of chaperoning the tributes from District 12. Banks does a great job as she is all dolled up in her crazy Capitol fashions and bejeweled fingernails. All of the actors in the movie did a phenomenal job in bringing the book to life. The way that the movie was shot was amazing. From seeing District 12, one of the poorest Districts there are, to seeing the very rich and advanced Capitol city, to seeing the huge arena and the cornocopia, it was everything and more that fans of the books could imagine. The graphics really showed just how advanced the technology they had was. You could see the gamemakers center and you could see how they were controlling everything that happened to the tributes in the arena with their touch screens and holograms. The way that the movie was shot in the arena really made you feel like you were right there with them, watching the games with the citizens on t.v. The book was really brought to life. From the acting to the script to the costumes and the music that brought everything together, the movie was amazing and really is a must see. It has action, suspense, politics and even some romance. The film is rated PG-13 for violence. The message of the books were brought through well with the movie, that no form of violence, whether it’s for good or bad is not OK and it never should be encouraged. In the faces made alone in the shots from the Districts, you can see how they all know that what they are forced to watch every year is not okay. When the train taking Katniss and Peeta to the Capitol first arrives, you can see how Katniss is so disgusted with the people for cheering and even how unhappy she is with Peeta for even paying attention to the Capitol people in the first place, you can see how violence has a negative effect on people. The movie was great and no one should miss the chance of seeing it on the big screen. Fans of the books can now look forward to the second book in the series, Catching Fire, being brought to the big screen [...]

The post “The Hunger Games” Movie Review appeared first on New Dorp Voice.

As you all know Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stanger Tides was released on May 20th. All viewers have the same opinion that this movie wasn’t as thrilling and adventurous as the last three previous to this one. In my opinion this movie wasn’t what I hoped it would be. The Black Pearl movie was the introduction to the series. Dead Man’s Chest was a twist in the plot of the series of Pirates of the Caribbean and the third movie, At Worlds End, was seemingly the perfect ending to this series showing an incredible action and adventurous plot. The whole story was amazing and it was indeed a good idea to put Blackbeard, Edward Teach into the movie but they could’ve done it better. “I’ve never seen any of the movies but I could tell that they were incredible by what I was told by other people.” says New Dorp High School student, German Cimers. The main difference between this movie and the previous movies is the actors starred in the movie. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley were not starred in this movie due to the fact that their roles were done in the third movie. Johnny Depp however, the main star of the movie played his role perfectly as the carefree, hilarious, and sarcastic, Captain Jack Sparrow. Tweet

The post Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides appeared first on New Dorp Voice.

James Cameron’s 2nd successful and widely known film, Titanic, has an official release date set in the year 2012. Titanic will be re-released by Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox on April 6th in 3-D. James Cameron’s last film, Avatar, ranked $2.8 billion in ticket sales at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing film in history. Will Titanic, the second highest grossing film of all time, claim it’s throne once again after it’s 3-D re-release? With it’s re-release everyone will have the chance to see titanic in their local theatres. Those of you who found the “emotional power” of Titanic entirely underwhelming can now question if adding an extra dimension to Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet will be worth the price of a ticket, but Cameron is convinced 3D is the way to go for Hollywood. “I don’t think it’s a good idea” stated Jahtiek Long, junior at New Dorp High School, “They should just make another dvd “Special Edition”.” On the contrast, Lisa Saccicio, also a junior at New Dorp High School, stated “I love Titanic and I can’t wait to see it in 3-D!”. The tri-dimensional Titanic‘s release has been planned to mark the 100th anniversary of the real ship’s departure from England in 1912. The exact date was the 10 of April, but the movie will premiere the 6th of April, which falls on a Friday.

Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical is a rock musical with a book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot. Several of its songs became anthems of the anti- Vietnam War peace movement. Hair tells the story of the “tribe” which is just a group of politically active, long haired hippies living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against enrollment into the Vietnam War. New Dorp Students are taking ‘Hair’ to the stage with the same passion as it was on broadway. ‘Hair’ has to be a great broadway production to do in a high school show. It’s challenging, interesting and an all out great show to watch and the cast did an excellent job at performing it. With all the help on this show from students and teachers, This show was a huge success. The show In my experience was very good. It was very fervent , You could actually see the emotions on the students’ faces as you watch the show. Henry Verner, who played Claude Bukowski really played his part amazingly, as did everyone else. The emotion of the show was the best part of the night. It could really bring tears to your eyes on some parts and laughter on others. The students and teachers really worked hard for this amazing show and it really impinged most of them and even some of the audience that it will be remembered forever. Kudos to everyone in and involved in the show, it really was great. “I was very Excited about this year’s production of Hair. The music is very challenging and interesting,” stated Music and Choral director of the show, Mr. Pepe. “Our talented musicians and cast have had a hard task of getting this show together, but I really feel that they have risen to the occasion.” With the help of Mr. Pepe and Billy Naismith the music really came together nicely in time for the show which was May 12th and 13th at 7pm.

On April 15, 2011 Scream 4 is coming out in the movie theaters. After the three other scream movies we do not know what to expect. Is it a continuation of the other movies or is it a totally different story? Will it be the same story line with the same killer but different characters? Or will it be a recreation of the same story? We do not know what to expect until it comes out. But from my own experiences every movie was the same thing over and over again just in a different setting. Student Lillian Ibrahim was asked, “What do you think of the scream movies?” She answered, “1 and 2 were OK. I think that it should have ended at 2 because 3 and 4 are just stupid.” The stories in all three Screams take place in different locations but have the same characters throughout. The killer and Sydney who the killer is looking for. The story begins at the first scream and it explains what happens that leads to the third. Sydney’s family and friends are stalked and killed and the killer seems to always find them every time she moves. She tries to investigate what happens and is too late because of the killer finding her. Student Kevin Ramses was asked, “What do you think of the Scream story line?” He answered, “I like that the movie had suspense but I did not like it because of the repetitive story line in every movie.” In my opinion the movies were repetitive, but when you create more than two of the same movie what do you expect. There really was no story line that could be stretched out. Because it was, and that’s why it lost my interest. And another movie is coming out this 15th. What do I expect now? Obviously the same killer but what about the storyline. Any horror movie will be good because of the suspense and because it is a scary movie. That I will enjoy.

Dear John is a sappy romantic book. The plot was well written and I throughly enjoyed it . Dear John starts in the present day with John watching Savannah from afar and thinking about how much he loves her and why their relationship dissolved. He then takes the reader back in time and narrates the story of their love. Besides that this story wasn’t that good. Although Sparks is one of the first to set the age old boy meets girl love story in the modern, post-9/11 world, he does not delve into how the war affects the characters or go very deep in this area. In Dear John, it could be any war keeping them apart. This specific war was not important. All i can say about this story was a light read. It is not painful to read but also not extremely enjoyable to read. If you need some beach reading, go ahead and borrow it. It will give you a few hours to escape, if nothing else. New Dorp High School Junior Faraz khurshid says, “ It was nowhere near to how good the First two movies were.” Yes, it had some little funny parts in it, but to me it felt like it was mostly like a drama movie with a few comedy parts in it that weren’t that funny. I personally enjoy the movies but this one was a huge dissapointment to me and a lot more people who saw all three movies. I love Martin Lawrence as an actor and I’m sure that a lot of people do too but him in the movie made it kind of worthwhile but other than that I doubt that there will be a 4th movie.
