Boston Bombing from Acma on Vimeo. The mother of the two terrorists speaks out to the public about the entire situation and the pressure she is going through. Her reaction to this situation is quite surprising for the public. Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, mother of the Tsarnaeva’s brothers is a very spiritual person. She has her religious beliefs but when she arrived in the United States in 2002, she went to a beauty school and did facials at a suburban daytime spa, just like any other hard working American. But after she returned to her home country, things started to change. When she moved back, she started to dress more like her beliefs allowed, meaning the hijab and other Muslim outfits. Before this, she wore low cut blouses and wore her hair like in the 1980’s . Since this dramatic change in her appearance, many people suspect her to be a terrorist but her family members completely denied the fact that it is true. “It’s all lies and hypocrisy, I am sick and tired of all of this nonsense that they make up about me and my children.People know me as a regular person, and I’ve never been mixed up in any criminal intentions, especially any linked to terrorism.” Quote founded on Huffington Post. She believes in the same religion as her sons believed in which causes a lot of suspicion about her personal and ethical views. Many people believe that she is linked to the Boston Marathon Bombing because of phone calls made through her and her sons in recent years. There is no official evidence that she has anything to do with the attack but, there will a close watch on her and the Tsarnaeva family in Russia by Officials. At New Dorp High School, 12th grader Maxim Kleiman has shared his opinion about the terrorist attack and how he can relate to it.

In high school, there are regents that students need to take in order to recieve their diplomas. Some kids do better than others, but that doesn’t mean that they are smarter or better than someone else that did worse. The scores that students recieve on their regents isn’t enough to tell a person how well they may do in college and how successful they will be. There are numerous factors that contribute to what a person may get on their regents. A students mindset is a serious factor to consider. Some kids take the regents more seriously than others. They may take the time to study and prepare for it so that they can get the highest score possible, where as others may just take the test without preparing for it because as long as they get a passing grade then they don’t care. Another factor that can contribute to a persons score is the teacher. Some teachers may teach too fast or too slow for the student to understand and it leaves them feeling lost and confused with no hope of passing. People that actually care about getting a high score will do what they can to get extra help and others may just take as much as they know and hope that it is enough to get a good grade. Some teachers may not teach everything that was on the regent because the lack of time. Some students may feel pressure when they take the test which can effect their thinking, usually for the worst. When a student goes to college, it’s usually because they want to. If a person doesn’t get a high grade on the regent, they may still do great in college. They could have a better teacher, they know they have to really try to do well since they are paying for the class and you become mature enough to be able to listen to the teacher and absorb what it is you’re learning. People that do great on their regents could actually do worse in college. Kids that do well all through high school may take college for granted and think that they know everything because they did so well in everything while in high school. They may not take things as seriously either. No matter what you get on your regents, it doesn’t mean that you’re going to do better or worse when you get into college. There are many things to consider for what a student gets on their regents. Regents and college are two seperate things and they really shouldn’t effect a person. How you did overall over all your years in high school is the only thing that should be taken into consideration to how a person will do when they get into college.

Things February 14th is famous for: Valentine’s Day Cupid and his bow and arrow Mass production of chocolates, plush toys, cards, and other assorted arrangements of useless souveigners. In general, this holiday is considered the international day of love, and what better way to proclaim your affection than by showering your beloved with gifts and throwing away money to various businesses. February 14th might as well be announced as Christmas-Part Two, because both holidays scream “CONSUMERIST”. It’s as if the real meaning of these celebrations don’t matter, as long as there are gifts involved. The world has been overcome by an extremely ignorant viewpoint on love. That being that money is the solution to all problems. Living in such a materialistic era, it’s near impossible to even be able to understand what you’re feeling. To love someone is more than flowers and teddy bear – it’s about something that can’t be explained by mere words, and something that stretches across long periods of time, not just one day out of three-hundred-sixty-five. So, the question here is, if it wasn’t for all of the presents and diabetes inducing mountains of chocolate, would Valentine’s Day even be considered a holiday at all?

Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical is a rock musical with a book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot. Several of its songs became anthems of the anti- Vietnam War peace movement. Hair tells the story of the “tribe” which is just a group of politically active, long haired hippies living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against enrollment into the Vietnam War. New Dorp Students are taking ‘Hair’ to the stage with the same passion as it was on broadway. ‘Hair’ has to be a great broadway production to do in a high school show. It’s challenging, interesting and an all out great show to watch and the cast did an excellent job at performing it. With all the help on this show from students and teachers, This show was a huge success. The show In my experience was very good. It was very fervent , You could actually see the emotions on the students’ faces as you watch the show. Henry Verner, who played Claude Bukowski really played his part amazingly, as did everyone else. The emotion of the show was the best part of the night. It could really bring tears to your eyes on some parts and laughter on others. The students and teachers really worked hard for this amazing show and it really impinged most of them and even some of the audience that it will be remembered forever. Kudos to everyone in and involved in the show, it really was great. “I was very Excited about this year’s production of Hair. The music is very challenging and interesting,” stated Music and Choral director of the show, Mr. Pepe. “Our talented musicians and cast have had a hard task of getting this show together, but I really feel that they have risen to the occasion.” With the help of Mr. Pepe and Billy Naismith the music really came together nicely in time for the show which was May 12th and 13th at 7pm.

Boston is known for their heated rivalries with New York sports teams. But who knew their citizens could be so flat out rude? Boston “folk” think that they’re better than everyone else. I beg to differ. After being in Boston for a couple of days, you begin to realize that everyone has something to say to out of towners. Most of the time, its something along the lines of a derogatory term directed towards you. If you are wearing anything from an out of town team, you are going to hear about it. You will get trash-talked, cursed at and disrespected. Honestly, it’s disgusting how ignorant and rude people can be to other human beings. If they were to come to New York, they would be shocked how classy we are. We wouldn’t curse them out unless they deserved it. In New York, we don’t care about your teams because we know we’ll always be better. In conclusion, Boston “folk” should get some class because it gives all their citizens a bad name. There is never a reason to be disrespectful to someone that just wants to visit your city. New York will always be better.

The Miami Heat have been strugling lately and have lost 5 in a row against the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago and Portland Blazers. However the 5 game losing streak was broken on the 10th of March, 2011 against the L.A Lakers who are 0 and 2 against the Miami Heat. Consider the presence of 3 all star in that team, fans expect more from Miami. Speculations on whether the Miami coach Eric Spoelstra is to blame have started along with rumors of him getting fired. However it is understandable because they are a team that recieved various players thus constructing a brand new team with veteran players. 9 of the 15 players came to Miami this year and have never played with each other before. Only Eddie House has been on Miami before and that was during the first 3 years of his career and now he came back in 2010. Miami can basically be considered a brand new team with high expetation and a lot of pressure on their shoulder due to that. It will take them time before they can learn to work together instead of looking confused on the court. Teams with team chemistry like Celtics, Spurs or Lakers aren’t made over night. It takes times and sometimes more than a year or two. The Heat also lack support when it comes to coaching. Eric Spoelstra, current coach of the Miami Heat, is one the youngest coaches in the NBA right now and lacks the experience that of the other coaches of the elite teams who have been coaching for years. To me Miami is a very unstable team. Miami won 21 out of 22(95.4%) games at one point from end of November to the beginning of January. A team winning with that percentage can be considered a big championship contender. Though they seem to winning, Miami have gone on a 4 losing streak multiple times which started to put doubts in people’s mind by now on them winning the NBA championship. Miami have also lost to all the elite teams in the NBA which consist of the San Antonio Suprs, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls. I find it hard to believe that Miami will win the championship this year but there is a possiblity. Miami does have a chance to win if they get everyone involved in the game. Against the L.A Lakers, many players contributed to the win instead of just the big 3. The way the played was showed that they have enough teamwork to go on. They also need to lessen the consistent turnovers they give. Getting multiple players involved and contributing to the defense and scoring works better than having few people score. This way the ball is on all sides of the court and harder for the defense to read. Miami has a lot of potential but are working against time.

A lot of talk has revolved around Yankees’ prospect Jesus Montero this Spring Training and even last season. The main question being “Is he ready to perform at a big league level?” The 2010 number 1 rated prospect by Baseball America has heard many speculations by Yankee fans and fans of baseball. Things such as “he’s too tall and heavy to be a catcher” or “he won’t live up to the hype”. Well, he’s beginning to prove he can play baseball, and pretty well too. As of today (March 13th) Jesus is batting .167 with 2 RBI’s in 24 at bats. He has shown he has some pop in his bat even though his numbers might not show it. Every at bat he has gotten, he has hit the ball hard, but unfortunately for him, it was right to the fielder’s glove. His 2 RBI’s were very solid line drives. He has a promising bat to come in the near future. As for Montero’s defensive side, he has improved greatly at catcher since last year. With Jorge Posada now being the Yankees DH, he has had time to show Montero a few pointers and Montero has been very thankful. People have begun to notice all of Montero’s hard work and they are not counting him out to make the major league roster. Although the Yankees would probably benefit from Jesus being on the major league squad, he wouldn’t. Jesus would see very minimal time if he makes the team. Which in fact, wouldn’t be beneficial for him. The Yankees should elect to keep him in the minor leagues for one more year. Then, in 2012, bring him to the Yankees and let him play full time. Until then, keep him fresh and when you need him, give him the call.

On the 6th of February 2011, the Pittsburg Stellers and Green Bay Packers faced off in Dallas for the Lombardi Trophy. Besides a great game, people, including me, expected a lot from the Super bowl commercials. By September 15th, 2010, Fox had sold 90% of the spots for ads. By October, all of the spots for the Super bowl commercials were sold. The price of each ad began at US$3,000,000. Pepsi-Cola made a return after one year with 3 commercials and was named the official drink of the NFL. Doritos and Pepsi-Cola also hosted a competition for the public to make their own commercial featuring Pepsi Max or Doritos. Top 5 commercials were picked from both the Doritos and Pepsi Max Commercials making a total of 10 finalists. Each finalist received US$25,000 and a private trip to a XLV Super bowl party hosted by Doritos. Out of the top commercials for both Doritos and Pepsi Max, 3 were picked from each to be aired during the super bowl. Doritos also gave US$1,000,000 to the commercial which placed number 1 on the USA Today Ads Meter. Second place on the USA Today Ads Meter received US$600,000 and 3rd place won US$400,000. If 3 of the 6 Grand Prize Winners land in the top 3 spots in the Ad Meter, they would each receive an additional US$1,000,000 making a total of US$2,000,000 for the first place, US$1,600,000 for the second place and US$1,400,000 for the 3rd place. It seems Doritos went all out this year in being a big part of the super bowl ads. This year the Super bowl had offered a lot of good commercials but my favorite was the Careerbuilder.com featuring the chimps parking the car. This commercial was really fun and creative in my opinion. The reason i picked the chimp’s commercial over the top commercial of the 2011 super bowl which featured a boyfriend teasing his girlfriend’s dog with Doritos was because the chimp commercial was more unexpected. I was able to predict that the dog was going to attack the boyfriend rather than predict what the chimps were going to do. I also thought the Chrysler commercial featuring Eminem was very well made. I thought featuring Eminem in a commercial about Detroit was something that made it easy to catch the viewer’s attention. Adding the music from his hit song “Lose Yourself,” added a perfect finishing touch to the commercial. After asking about the best super bowl commercial, I received various responses. Most people stated multiple Doritos commercials, Darth Vader Kid and the 2 Eminem commercials as their favorite. While watching the super bowl ads, I was comparing them to the ads from last year. I can honestly say that after looking at the top 5 commercials from 2011, the number 2 commercial from 2010 named “Play Nice” was better than all of them. It was something unexpected and undoubtedly hilarious. This year majority of the commercials were really funny and creative. Some commercials like the one featuring Eminem held strong meaning. I was surprised at how much Doritos was offering to the public to make their own commercials.

Some people may have thought this year’s Grammy awards were a bit surprising. Others may have thought it was fair. Others may have thought it was entertaining. The biggest upset may have been when Esperanza Spalding beat out Justin Bieber, Drake and Florence and the Machine for the award of Best New Artist. But some people beg to differ. Esperanza Spalding may have took home the award for Best New Artist, but Arcade Fire won the Grammy for Album of the Year with their album ‘The Suburbs’ beating out Eminem and Katy Perry. These two bands may have won two of the biggest awards but it was clear that Lady Antebellum completely owned the award ceremony, winning a total of five Grammy awards, winning in every country category they were nominated in. The Grammy’s were more than just an award ceremony. There were also some great performances. Lady Gaga with her new single ‘Born This Way”, Justin Bieber with up and coming star Jaden Smith, Katy Perry and Cee Lo Green in his crazy chicken-like suit. Speaking of crazy outfits, did I mention Lady Gaga showed up in an egg? This years Grammy’s were far from expected. Especially when the person who won Best New Artist beat out one of the most popular people in the world, being Justin Bieber. This year’s Grammy’s were pretty good, but expect next year’s to be better.

Many schools enforce the rule of no hats in schools. The argument is that students can conceal items under their hats, such as weapons, and also that they can be gang-affiliated. However, what item can be put under a hat than cannot be put in our pockets? Should students also not be permitted to wear pants, or not be allowed to wear a certain color shirt? Hats are merely an accessory that we wear and serve the same purpose as bracelets, necklaces and rings. They are simply a part of our style and if the school does not have a dress code, hats should be permitted. The truth is, hats do not serve any necessary role and it does not matter whether we wear them or not. So the same argument could be made that if you don’t need to wear them, you shouldn’t. But one could also say that if it doesn’t matter, allow hats to be worn. However, it goes either way. Wearing a hat does not in any way affect the learning ability of a student. The only reason that we are told by teachers and deans to remove our hats is because it is a rule. If it weren’t a rule, most likely no one would care. Although a reason for the disallowance of hats is because of its link to gangs, many of the hats worn are not associated with them. Gang colors can be represented through other articles of clothing or accessories as well, such as shirts, chains/necklaces, bracelets and tattoos. However, none of those things can be banned, so why should hats be singled out? Unless gangs take the names of various sports teams and corporations, hats only represent a team or a company. And while it is considered respectful and proper to remove a hat inside a building, in reality, the hat is just there doing nothing. We only follow what is considered conventional rule. Whether a baseball cap or a top hat, an object on your head is just an object on your head.
