What’s one thing that there has been nonstop talk about in this past month? That of course, would be the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on April 29, 2011. People around the United States have been referring to it as the wedding of the century.  The funny thing is that the US took the wedding to a whole other level.
“Yes, I stayed home just to watch the royal Wedding, “states Ashley Sanchez, New Dorp High School junior.  “It was the first royal wedding during my lifetime.”
The day of the wedding, adults and kids alike stayed home. They got up early, even earlier than they would have to get up on an average day, just to turn on their televisions and tune in to the wedding. Some people even packed up and traveled to England just to stand on a street with locals and watch the procession of the wedding party. Also, speaking of parties, some people joined together and threw parties as a result of the wedding. They had tea and games. Some games included “What would you wear if you were going to a royal wedding?”, awarding prizes for the best outfit. There was also ongoing gossip about the wedding itself. Some questions were “What dress will Kate wear?  Will Kate wear Diana’s crown? What will be William’s and Kate’s title?” There were also numerous T.V. specials and a countdown all throughout the week.
“It is the first wedding in 350 years that a royal marries a commoner. It had to be special,” states Romana Chobey, a New Dorp high School junior. “It is a significant for the Us and especially for England, since the way the monarchy  might be changed.”
Ever since the engagement five months ago, preparation for the wedding has been nonstop.  Buckingham Palace had to be closed down for rehearsals, synchronizing of traffic lights took place, (just in case they had to speed up the procession), and 1,400 cameras were set up around the area. There were even special edition handmade plates, for $1,500 with William’s and Kate’s monogram on it. Only 240 were produced. Last but not least, a coin that will be used throughout the UK and over sea countries was made. It has a picture of the bride and groom with their wedding date.
The wedding itself was spectacular. It is defiantly not just memorable, but it was a historic event.
